Below: painting the stage floor at the Depot Theater in Garrison, NY. The Depot is probably the smallest stage where the biggest performances are staged. I had the honor to had designed, built and painted the scenery for "HSM Pinafore" in 2016.And I had the fortune of having done that with the help of Depot’s artistic director Nancy Swan, who also helped me to paint this pattern on the stage floor. February 2023.
Theatrical Painting
Below: This is a commissioned project I did for Ballet Arts (in Beacon, NY) in conjunction with Ballet Rockland (in Garnerville, NY). I was asked to design and paint a backdrop for the “Land of Sweets” act of Nutcracker’s ballet. Given the budget, I designed a simple but (hopefully!) effective enough backdrop that would ideally be doable in five days. I ended up painting this drop in six days, from stretching and squaring the fabric to folding the finish drop. But in preparation for this week I also cut most of the designed elements as stencils. The first image is the design, and the black silhouette of the bailarina is just for scale. The drop measure 44 feet wide by 22 feet high.

Below: “HMS PInafore”, Depot Theater, Garrison, NY, 2016. For this production of HMS Pinafore, I had the opportunity to design, build (carpentry work)  and paint the scenery. Nancy Swan (Artistic Director of the Depot Theater) teamed with me for the construction and some of the painting of this scenery.

Below: adding a aging glaze to faux bricks. These bricks are made out of insulation foam and skimmed with structo lite, then painted. A large group of scenic painters (including myself) worked on this project. I did apply the final coat of dusty age to them. The bricks were used on Season Four of "Manifest". 2022.

Wall Restoration
Below: wall restore. Sometimes the work that is needed to do is just to restore the surface. This kitchen project is a good example of that. Here I removed old tiles from the wall, applied three skim coats of Joint Compound, primed and painted the walls. The finish look is super smooth!

Below: Another small home improvement project. This private residence was built in the 1860’s, and the original ceiling and plaster walls were collapsing. I removed all plaster and lath from the ceiling, and replaced it with drywall, which I later patched and painted. The plaster walls remained (fully guttering the walls was beyond the home owner’s plans), and were also covered with drywall. After the walls and ceiling were done, I dismantled the four windows, stripped off the old paint and repainted them.

Applying wallpaper to a newly renovated bathroom. Newburgh, NY.
Below: embedded design. These sample pieces measuring 24x24 inches are made off of layered tinted joint compound. The first layer contains the design element. Once dried, another layer of tinted joint compound is put on top. Once dried again, the top coat is sanded to reveal the design below. This could e a beautiful treatment to emulate an old wall.
